New York State Police troopers from Livingston, with an assist from the Columbia County Child Advocacy Center arrested Copake resident Marvin Vasquez Morales on Thursday following an investigation into an alleged rape of a minor.
On Sept. 12, the Columbia County Child Advocacy Center received information regarding the possible rape of a child in Copake. Police said that the investigation into the claims found that Morales and the 13-year-old child was “familiar with one another.”
They then proceeded to begin an intimate relationship earlier this year that resulted in sexual contact, police said.
Morales was arrested and charged with second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in the Town of Clermont Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 27 to answer the charges.
